National Desexing Network - Save Animal Lives

Nat Desexing Pic

Let us work together to stop the oversupply of puppies and kittens that end up on death row, this Christmas. By encouraging all our Local Councils to support and promote The National Desexing Network, a humane and responsible program to reduce euthanization rates.

Please put the link on your social media platforms and forward the link on to member groups.  Particularly encourage members to lobby local Council's asking them to join and promote the NDN if they haven't already.

The National Desexing Network (NDN) is a nationwide referral system for discounted desexing made available to pet owners in financial need. Our goal is to end pet overpopulation by making this service more affordable to those who might not otherwise be in a position to desex their pets.

Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world. Four out of five Australians have owned a pet at some time, and almost two-thirds of Australian households currently own pets. Despite these figures, many cats and dogs die every hour of every day in pounds and shelters nationwide. Due to the ongoing problem of pet overpopulation, particularly cats, due to the faster breeding rate, these healthy, loving animals are being killed because there are not enough homes available.

The Rainforest School Proposal to Lease Frog’s Hollow

The wonderful Rainforest School has coordinated many fundraising initiatives (with their Circus Community Shows coming up next week) to work towards finding their “forever” home. They thank you for your continued support. They would also like to let you know, that The Rainforest School has submitted a proposal to lease land from the Cassowary Coast Regional Council and to relocate their school to Frog's Hollow in South Mission Beach. The next step is consulting with our local community to share their plans and seek feedback.

About The Rainforest School

The Rainforest School was founded in 2018 by two local teachers in response to community interest and demand. The school is small by design and has been operating for 5 years. They teach to the Australian National Curriculum, offering enrolment placements from Year P-6.  Their school values are Community, Conservation, Connection, and Creativity. They invite you to visit their website at www.trs.qld.edu.au to find out more about the school.

It is the School's vision to build a school campus with relocatable historical Queenslanders and using sustainable practices to create a ‘home away from home’ while conserving and/or regenerating the surrounding tropical rainforest and wetlands. Frog's Hollow will offer the perfect setting for The Rainforest School.

Cyclone Awareness - What's Your What-If Plan

Cyclone Get Ready Qld Whats your What If Plan

For people in the Disaster Management world, Cyclone season starts on November 1 and runs through until about April or May of the following year.

With the development of a low pressure system off the Solomon Islands, that could form into a cyclone later today, Cyclone season is here in Far North Queensland.

This is a timely reminder to make sure you are cyclone prepared around your houses and businesses.

Most people may already be prepared but a quick reminder can never hurt.

Sergeant Bill Stanley, Executive Officer, Mareeba District Disaster Management Group is asking the community to use the next few days to have a look around their homes and make sure they are prepared.

For more important information on being prepared click on 'Read More' (also the MBCA presentation from last Tuesday night can be viewed here Cyclone Awareness Presentation 2023)
