Psychological First Aid Training

Psychological First Aid (PFA) is a simple and practical approach that appropriately trained people can use to help distressed individuals after a trauma such as a natural disaster (eg. cyclones as we experience in the FNQ region).

Come along and learn how to look after yourself in such an event, and how you can help reduce initial distress in others.

Next training: Mon 26th February 9.30 am to 11.00 am (13-17 Donald Street, Innisfail). Call 4043 8400 to register.

$15M Mission Beach Revitalisation Tender Endorsed by Council

CC Council Logo Long

A $15 million construction contract will progress to negotiations with a preferred tenderer for the Mission Beach Town Centre Revitalisation endorsed by Council at the January 2024 Local Government Meeting.

With the project planning dating back to 2021, Council accepted the tender as submitted by RMS Engineering & Construction Pty Ltd for the body of works.

The identification of the preferred tenderer follows an extensive public consultation and open market competition. Final designs were endorsed in October 2023 following an extensive community engagement and consultation campaign, and a contractor briefing session was held prior to the release of the tender in November 2023.

The $18.98 million Mission Beach Town Centre Revitalisation Project includes the upgrade of aging stormwater infrastructure and redevelopment of the Mission Beach Village Green and adjacent Porter Promenade.

Following contract negotiations with the preferred tenderer, a schedule of works will be announced as the next significant step.

Council’s project team will work now with the contractor through the next stages of the planning phase to ensure a smooth transition to construction occurs.

This project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s Local Government Grants and Subsidies program in association with Cassowary Coast Regional Council.

PM makes bombshell tax cut admission

Anthony Albanese 1958911288

Anthony Albanese has finally come clean with voters about what he’s going to do with the planned tax cuts this year.

The Low to Middle Income Tax Offset, which expired on June 30, 2022, previously saw Aussies who earned up to $126,000 per year receive an offset in their tax return, as shown below. But with the offset no longer available, taxpayers who once received it could now be seeing their tax refunds cut by up to $1500.

Dunk Island View Caravan Park Update (to Educational Facility)

MB Caravan Park Submission

For all our members who are aware, the Dunk Island View Caravan Park (Banfield Parade/Webb Road) is now in the process of being changed to an Educational Establishment.

The DA Application has been submitted to the Cassowary Coast Regional Council for a 'Material Change of Use' by Carey Baptist Grammar School. For more information 'click CCRC DA Application Carey Baptist Grammar School

Many long term campers are quite disappointed, and we would like to the thoughts of a member who sent this to us:

'Just writing to tell you how disappointed we are to be losing the Dunk island View caravan park.

We have been coming to this park for over 25 years and spending approximately 3 Months a year there and made a lot of  friends over this time .We have also made a lot of Mission Beach friends in that time and have very fond memories.

l am very concerned about the loss of this caravan park and the affect it will have on the local economy.

l know this is a commercial decision for the park owner but the way they accepted our money for deposits for the following year then tells us the parks closing in 2 weeks and everyone is left to try and find somewhere else to go is very disappointing.

In no way is this letter a criticism of the current managers they have done a fantastic job and also find themselves out of work in a few weeks.

I  call on the local council to get behind the remaining caravan parks to enable them to help accommodate as many caravaners as possible as Mission Beach cannot afford to lose all this business.     Thanks Rob &Ann Wright (Merimbula NSW)'
