Festival of Small Halls Comes Back to the Cassowary Coast this July

CCRC Media Release Logo

After much success during its tour last November, the Festival of Small Halls presented by Woodfordia Inc. is coming back to the Cassowary Coast on Sunday 7 July at The Con Theatre for its Winter Tour.

The folk music tour features Canadian band Quote the Raven and Aussie singer Hailey Calvert who will play alongside the Cassowary Coast’s very own local talent Ash Binello.

Set to captivate the audience, Jordan Coaker and Kirsten Rodden-Clarke who make up the award-winning band Quote The Raven seamlessly merge American-Folk music with East Coast storytelling, sharing tales about a small town band experiencing the world.

“We are so excited to be returning to Australia so quickly after our debut in your beautiful country this past summer. We thought it would be at least another year before we had the chance to come back. We've performed at small halls here in Canada several times, so we can't wait to do it in Australia!”

Folk singer Hailey Calvert has spent the last few years building a following as a solo artist both in Australia and internationally. She has developed her unique sound described as ‘honest, thoughtful songwriting with vintage soul vocals’.

“I'm so excited to get to perform for lovely audiences in little towns you usually might not get to stop in on tour. Every time I drive through a small town I see the most amazing potential venues and I’m thrilled to get to play in them this time!”

This is an event not to be missed.  Tickets can be booked now by visiting festivalofsmallhalls.com  and selecting Innisfail.

This event is jointly funded by the Regional Arts Development Fund and Cassowary Coast Regional Council.

Cinema Paradiso Movie - The Piano - 1st June (THIS Sat)

Cinema Paradiso's film showing on Saturday 1st June is "The Piano"

A 1993 Australia Drama, Music, Romance. It combines masterful scripting, cinematography, performances, and musical score into a disturbing, erotic, and ultimately uplifting piece - it won 3 Oscars.

The movie's heroine, wonderfully portrayed by Holly Hunter, is mute (symbolic of the fact that she has no say in her own life), with her daughter (the astonishing Anna Paquin) and her piano as her personal obsessions. Her conscripted husband, coldly played by Sam Neill, is trying to win her heart and her desire in all the wrong ways, while his crude tribal neighbour, sensually played by Harvey Keitel, understands her needs and ultimately captures her physically, intellectually, and romantically.

Showing at the C4 Theatrette, Porters Prom, North Mission Beach next to the Information Centre.
Guest and Visitors Welcome $10, doors open at 6.30pm Film starts at 7pm.
Join other Film Club members and friends for an after Film discussion and drinks in the Village....venue decided on the night
