Wildlife Friendly Fencing

Wildlife Friendly Fencing 1 n

Dan and Nikki Macare of Mission Beach have adapted their new fence to make it wildlife friendly. Can be seen on the Mission Beach/ Tully Road opposite GLOWS.

Dan and Nikki worked with C4 and wildlifefriendlyfencing.org to make some small adjustments to their new fence which will be a big help to local wildlife.

Firstly they used Whites' Murray Barbless wire on the top strand (instead of barbed wire) - this will reduce the chance of bird and bat entanglement by over 90%.

Next, they adapted the design to create a "Cassowary Passage" which will allow cassowaries to pass between their property and their neighbours, keeping the vital wildlife corridor open between Wongaling Creek and Djiru National Park.

C4 and wildlifefriendlyfencing.org are working with local landholders to promote wildlife friendly fencing solutions. If you would like more information please contact Jenny McLean on 07 4091 2683 or go to www.wildlifefriendlyfencing.org
