Come along and celebrate our iconic bird this Sunday at C4  Porter Promemade 9.00am - 2.00pm

Far North Queensland is home to one of the most incredible and unique birds in the world—the Cassowary!

These iconic, flightless birds, with their striking blue and black feathers and tall, helmet-like casques, are truly a sight to behold! Cassowaries play a vital role in our local ecosystems, acting as “gardeners of the rainforest” by spreading seeds from the fruits they eat, helping to regenerate our lush rainforests. But they’re more than just pretty faces—these majestic creatures are critically endangered, with only about 4,000 remaining in the wild.

Seeing one in the wild is a truly special experience, and a reminder of how important it is to protect these local treasures. From their ancient lineage to their crucial environmental role, cassowaries are a fascinating part of Far North Queensland's rich biodiversity. If you're lucky enough to encounter one, you’ve witnessed a living piece of history! So come along and honour our fabulous cassowary and see how you can help keep them thriving for many decades to come.
