After much discussion and consideration, a decision has been taken by the committee to restructure the membership of the Mission Beach Community Association.
Historically our subscription to the MBCA newsletter has been based on a one-off payment of varying amounts from residents as well as very generous donations periodically. Whilst this has worked well, it does create an admin headache, nor does it provide the association with an accurate membership level.
Mission Beach Community Association will revert to an annual membership fee effective 1st April 2024 with the membership period being 01/04 - 31/03 of any given year. The annual membership will be set at $10.00 p/a. The increase in membership will provide MBCA with an annual cashflow that will allow us to support community groups and individuals to pursue projects or activities on a case-to-case basis.
There are certain community events that MBCA would like to see continue and feel it is in the communities’ interest to do so. An example is the Kids Mission Beach Christmas Party, a traditional event that is an important part of our community fabric. In 2023 the event almost fell over but for the efforts of one or two individuals. It is the committee’s intent to provide admin and financial support to ensure key events remain.
In 2023 MBCA provided financial support to the Mission Beach Outriggers junior team in their efforts to compete at the World Championships in Samoa. Again, opportunities such as these need to be supported and encouraged.
The committee acknowledges that almost everything in day to life appears to be on the increase. We hope you see this as an investment in our community moving forward.
