Frog Safe NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Frog Safe

Media release: Jan 16th from Frog Safe, Inc.

A permanent home for the frog hospital exists ....

Having to rent in the private rental market has been the 'kiss of death' for our small organisation. Being forced to move every few years has caused confusion for the public and has put a massive burden on our small number of volunteers - not to mention that these moves need to be paid for and you can't get grants or government support for that. WE NEED A PERMANENT HOME!

We have been watching the sales market for something cheap enough that a conservation-minded investor might buy to rent to us permanently. There is a listing now in Timoulin that would suit us extremely well considering that the property itself needs to be suitable but also it needs to be some distance from pollutants. That is a tall order but it must be met when you are working with frogs onsite.

Founding President Deborah Pergolotti is pleading for a financially secure person to step forward to purchase this lovely home to rent to us permanently. She says, "How many non-profit groups do you know of who have been forced to relocate as many times as we have? This has been catastrophic to our work and to our volunteers and we are sick of it!"

This listing at Timoulin would serve the existing needs of the frog hospital but would also allow expansion including running our training course and incorporating breeding ponds. It would also give us close proximity to join the work being done to study and conserve the endangered Magnificent Brood frog which is under threat from industrial wind facilities.

The price is negotiable for an environmental buyer and can be seen at this link:

Please contact Frog Safe on (07) 4006-3784 to discuss the finer details

if you are interested to know more about purchasing this rare opportunity.

Red Cross Heatwave Advice

LC Heatwave

While it is cooler today, the weather has been hot earlier in the week. Heatwaves and hot weather have killed more people in Australia than any other disaster. The extreme temperatures we continue to face over the next few days are putting lives at risk.

Here's how you can beat the heat and keep cool.

During a heatwave

  • Stay inside and keep out of the heat as much as possible. Plan to do most of your activities early or late in the day to avoid being outside during the hottest hours.
  • Avoid sport and heavy exercise during peak hours of the day.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
  • Keep your home cool by using external shade cloths or blinds to shield the inside of the house from direct sunlight.
  • Where possible use a combination of air conditioning and fans to keep certain rooms in the house cool. Electric fans can be an effective method of cooling if air conditioning is not available.
  • If not using air conditioning, open windows during the cooler parts of the day and allow ventilation between rooms.
  • Take cool showers or baths, splash yourself with cold water, or use a cool damp cloth to cool down.
  • If it's too hot at home, go to an air-conditioned shopping centre, community centre, library or your local swimming pool.
  • Avoid direct exposure to the sun where possible and protect yourself with appropriate clothing (loose-fitting, lightweight and light-coloured).
  • Do not leave children or animals in parked vehicles.
  • Keep in touch with friends, neighbours and relatives, particularly if they’re unwell or isolated.
  • Stay up to date with warnings: Queensland Warnings Summary (bom.gov.au)
