CCRC Exciting News and Reminders

Cassowary Coast Regional Council's 2024/2025 Budget was handed down at a Special Meeting on Wednesday 26 June 2024.

CCRC Budget pic

Snapshot:

Budget $173.5M

Capital works $70.4M

Operational expenditure $103M

Budget includes:

$27.1M water and wastewater

$17.9M CBD revitalisation

$11M Road improvements, pathways, bridges, culverts & recreation areas

$5.32M Stormwater drainage renewals and upgrades

The minimum increase in residential general rates will be 5% due to the following reasons:

Inflation has seen the cost of building roads and basic infrastructure increase substantially.

A recent (mandatory) transport revaluation has increased Council's depreciation expense by $4.1 million. Depreciation represents 1/3 of Council's operational expense ($36.3M) - the greatest amount ever in Council's budget.

QLD Government waste reduction targets have increased costs for waste and resource recovery by 30%.

Without intervention, these increased cost pressures represent the equivalent of a 10% rate rise - however operational efficiencies and other measures have brought this down to 5%.

Under Queensland law, all dogs over 3 months old must be registered with Council. Plus, there are discounts available for pensioners and for dogs who have been desexed.

Don't risk penalties! On the Cassowary Coast, fines for unregistered dogs could exceed $300.

Cinema Paradiso Movie - Charcoal - this Saturday 6th July

For all our movie buffs, you will definitely want to come along and check this film out!

Charcoal - Bleakly funny and never predictable, with its stellar cast Charcoal is a comic portrait of just how heavy the weight of poverty can be on those whose souls it destroys. Brought to life through charmingly human flourishes such as little Jean’s inability not to flaunt his newfound wealth and Irene’s tentative flirtation with the idea of a better life, Markowicz’s debut feature is full of life and color, immersing us completely in the little dramas of everyday life which steadily yet subtly work to make us empathize with characters whose morality is often shady at best. It is in this sense as compassionate as it is funny; Charcoal is a gentle, loving portrait of poverty and desperation where moral judgement takes a back seat to the complex art of survival.

So come along on Saturday night, 6th July - doors open at 6.30 pm for mingling and movie starts at 7.00 pm. C4 Theatrette, Porters Promenade (next to Visitors Information Centre).

Yearly Memberships $40 Casual $10 BYO Drinks and join the group for after movie discussions at a Mission Beach bar (venue to be confirmed on the night).
