This week ,thirty five passionate individuals came together for the Cassowary Coast Regional Council’s first-ever Housing and Homelessness Round Table.

 

The event brought together Councillors, real estate agents, the Department of Housing, health professionals, and local support groups. Together, they explored innovative ideas like modular housing, tiny homes, and ways to encourage more housing developments in the region.

 

Mayor Teresa Millwood said, “Tuesday night’s turnout shows how much our community cares about housing issues. By working together, we can create real change.”

Updates on the Department of Housing’s new 11-unit build on Ernest Street.

 

Discussions on addressing overcrowding and improving housing conditions to support community health.

 

A commitment to host another round table next year to check progress on the Local Housing Action Plan

Prepare your home, feel secure, and reduce the impact of severe weather!

 

The Queensland Government's Household Resilience Program Phase 4 is now open and is helping homeowners in Central and Northern Queensland improve their homes' cyclone resilience!

 

Eligible homeowners can receive 80% of the cost of improvements (up to $15,000) to upgrade roofs, garage doors, windows, and more.

 

Who can apply?

 

Homeowners living in houses built before 1984

 

Located within 50km of the coastline from Bundaberg to Cape York

 

This program is funded by the Australian Government and administered by the Queensland Government.
