Council Grants $125k to Boost Local Community Infrastructure!

An allocation allocation of $125,000 in Infrastructure Grants to be shared across eleven community organisations, supporting projects such as playground upgrades, fishing weigh station infrastructure, and furniture repairs.

With over $350,000 worth of projects considered, assessment panel members were impressed by the high quality and potential of these infrastructure initiatives to deliver lasting benefits for the Cassowary Coast community.

The Mission Beach Tennis Club was one of the successful applicants for the infrastructure grant and will receive $30,000 to upgrade unsafe decking around their clubhouse.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the support from Cassowary Coast Regional Council, which will enable us to replace the aging decking around our clubhouse,” said Brendan Blair President of the Mission Beach Tennis Club.

“This upgrade is essential for the safety of our members and visitors, and it will ensure that our facility remains a welcoming and accessible place for everyone in the community to enjoy.”

Other funded projects from various clubs and community groups include court resurfacing, signage, furniture replacement, facility extension designs, cricket upgrade, accessible entry improvements, kitchen repairs, and toilet facility upgrades!

Community, Culture, and Liveability Portfolio holder, Councillor Trudy Tschui, added, “The aim of our Community Infrastructure Grants program is to empower local groups to improve facilities that benefit the public, foster connection, and enhance our region's sustainability and resilience."

These grants align with Council’s vision of creating safe, well-connected places and sustainable infrastructure that enhance residents' quality of life.

Mission Beach CBD Temporary Toilet Update!

As part of the ongoing CBD revitalisation, the existing toilet block will be demolished to make way for the installation of new underground stormwater and service connections.

But don’t worry! The beloved Butterfly Mural will be carefully preserved during the construction and will be safely relocated at the end of the project.

In the meantime, Council encourages everyone to use the temporary toilet facilities located in the Campbell Street car park.
